Library Services

Policies

Food/Drink

Food and drink are permitted in the Library. Beverage containers must have a secure lid.

Patrons are encouraged to be good stewards of our Library by disposing of all food and drink waste appropriately and reporting any spills immediately.

Noise

Appropriate noise levels for the Library vary by section.

Generally, the noise level should be increasingly quiet moving from the first floor up to the third floor.

Although conversation is allowed in parts of the Library, we ask that you always try to be considerate of others studying and move to an appropriate area if you plan to engage in extended conversation. Whistling, humming, and singing are not permitted in the Library.

The Common area of the Library (first floor, tiled) may be used for general conversation, small study groups, and moderate-volume phone calls.

The Reference area (first floor, carpeted) is mainly for quiet study. Groups may have quiet conversation, but since Reference materials may not be taken to other areas of the Library, please be considerate of others using the Reference resources.

The second floor may be used for quiet conversation and small study groups with a low-volume level.

The third floor is the quietest floor and may be used for silent study. Those wishing to engage in conversation should move to the first or second floor.

Boisterous or distracting behavior may result in a patron being asked to leave the library.

Dress Code and Hygiene

The Library asks that patrons dress in a manner consistent with the Dress Code in the SEBTS Handbook.

  • Shirts and shoes are required
  • Clothing should not be excessively short or revealing
  • Clothing should not have slogans that are inconsistent with institutional values

Similarly, the Library asks that patrons be considerate of others in regards to their personal hygiene. A person may be asked to leave the library if their personal hygiene interferes with the orderly operation of the library or the ability of users to use and enjoy the facility.

Inclement Weather Closings

In the event of inclement weather closings, the Library will follow the SEBTS delay schedule.

Delays are calculated from 8am (even though the Library normally opens at 7am). For example, a one-hour delay would cause the Library and SEBTS campus to open at 9am.

Delays are announced by 6:30am on the morning of the delay.

To receive text alerts, text "SEBTSALERTS" to 888777. To receive email/text alerts, go to campusnet.sebts.edu, select Security under the Menu tab, and choose "SEBTS Alerts/Announcements" to add your email or cell number.
