Located on the second floor of The Library, the Archives preserves documents and other materials related to the history of Southeastern Seminary, the Southern Baptist Convention and Baptist History in the U.S. The Archives is responsible for the following collections: the Baptist Materials Room, Closed Shelves, Faculty Shelves and the Thesis Collection. The Archives also houses the personal papers of many important Baptists and other evangelical leaders, include the papers of Judge Paul Pressler, Rev. J. Clyde Turner and Dr. John Warwick Montgomery.
Archival material must be used in the Archives. Some Collections require advanced permission prior to use. Permission forms are available. Archival material is not available for Interlibrary Loan.

Borrowing By Mail
|
|
Borrowing By Mail is a lending service made available to alumni, former SEBTS faculty or staff who live more than 2 hours drive from Wake Forest and to SEBTS Distance Learning Students. You have a four (4) week check-out period, one four (4) week renewal period, and a five (5) item limit. Reimbursement for postage is required. Journal articles may be faxed or e-mailed at the rate of $0.15 per page. Request items from the Circulation Dept. by phone (919-761-2251)or e-mail.
Photocopy requests are subject to copyright laws.

Check-out Policies
|
|
The Front Desk handles all check-outs, check-ins, holds/recalls, and renewals of library materials, Reserve items, as well as reservations for study rooms.
A. General
- An ID card or a Guest User Card is required to check out materials.
You must use your own card to check.
- Anyone who is 18 years of age or older and willing to assume responsibility for library materials and to abide by library policies may apply for a Guest User Card.
- Exceptions to any check-out policy are made only by the Circulation Supervisor, the Asst. Library Director or the Director.
- Reference materials may not be checked out without the approval of the Reference Librarian/Asst. Director or Director.
Any item may subject to a Recall after the first two weeks of being checked out if they are requested by another patron. Items are also subject to a Recall at anytime after checkout if they are needed for Reserves.

Church Ministry & Media Resource Center (CMRC)
|
|
Located on the second floor, the CMRC consists of two collections: the AV Collection and the Straughan Model Church Library.
The AV Collection consists of circulating videos and DVDs. They may be checked out at the Circulation desk on the first floor.
The Straughan Model Church Library consists of cataloged books and Lifeway materials that do not circulate. It is dedicated to enhancing church ministries and providing workshops and training for book management and care. It is designed to encourage pastors, ministers of education, teachers, students and all Christians to initiate this important ministry. Workshops and classes related to CMRC materials and resources are available to all groups and individuals. For assistance, contact the CMRC at 761- 2254 or Reference staff at 761-2258.

Computer Lab
|
|
Located on the first floor, the Library Computer Lab has 24 computers with word-processing capability and internet access. The Lab is operated by the Information Technology Department (IT). Computers are available for student use on a first-come, first-serve basis during regular Library hours except when the lab is closed for classroom purposes. During class time, the room is closed to everyone other than class members. Users must have a seminary account in order to print materials in the Lab. Please report all computing and printing problems to the IT Dept via the help phone in the Lab by calling Ext. 277.
- Anyone 12 - 18 years of age, not accompanied by a parent, must have written parental permission to use the lab. Permission forms are available at the Circulation Desk.
- Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent when using the lab.
- Lab Policies are posted on the lab computer screens.

Copy Center
|
|
Located on the first floor, the Copy Center has three photocopiers, one which takes money only, and two that use an ID card swipe. The Copy Center is operated by the Information Technology Department (IT). Please report any copier problems to IT via the computer lab phone at Ext.277.

Distance Learning Students
|
Every Extension Center Student has access to every resource a student on the main campus does. Once you are enrolled in class and have paid for your course, you are given a student ID number and are automatically entered into the Library User Database. Your student ID number and card are the keys to accessing Library Services:
1. Borrowing by Mail - Check-out of items located in the main library - You have a four (4) week check-out period, one four (4) week renewal period, and a five (5) item limit. Reimbursement for postage required. Request items from the Circulation Dept. by phone (919-761-2251)or e-mail.
2. Viewing your account information Using your ID and PIN number (default pin is SSN#) you can login to the Library catalog and see what you have checked-out, renew your books on line, and save your research bibliographies on the campus network. 3. Setting up user profiles and preferences in the Library databases You can access the many full-text databases the Library purchases by logging-in with your ID number and PIN. Once logged in, you can create your own account and select various preferences for information delivery. 4. Local Agreements and Guest User Privileges Most local universities and colleges will allow students in the community to acquire a guest library card for a small fee or for free. The Seminary may already have a borrowing agreement in place with a local institution. Please ask your Extension Center Director for more information.

Fines and Overdue Items
|
|
A. Overdue Materials Patrons will be notified by campus e-mail regarding overdue materials.
B. Fines Fines on overdue items are due when the items are returned. Fines are assessed according to the four categories below. Fines will not be assessed for any day the Library is closed. Any student with outstanding fines will not be able to register for the next semester.
- Regular Circulation Books
A fine of twenty-five cents ($0.25) per day per book will be assessed for overdue books.
- Reserve Items
A fine of twenty-five cents ($0.25) per hour/part of an hour will be assessed for overdue Reserve Items.
- RECALLED or Return Requested Items
A fine of $1.25 per day may be assessed for failing to return an item within twenty-four hours of being RECALLED by the Library Staff.
- AV Materials
A fine of $0.50 per day will be assessed for overdue AV materials.

Group Study Rooms
|
|
Two group study rooms are available on the second floor: one large group study room (4-8 patrons) on the lower level; and (2) one small group study room (2-4 patrons) on the upper level. Requests for use or reservations must be made at the Circulation desk.
1. Reservations require at least a one hour notice but no more than two weeks advance notice.
2. Reservations can be made for no more than two weeks at a time.
3. Audio and video players may be used on low volume, but headphones are preferred.
4. When finished, please notify the Circulation desk and remove all items.
5. Requests are given priority in the following order: a) Student group reservations with one hour advance notice. b) Student group requests without a reservation. c) Individual Student requests.
6. When requests are made, patrons must leave a name, a group name and a contact phone number.

Interlibrary Loan
|
|
I. What is Interlibrary Loan? Interlibrary Loan or ILL is the borrowing of materials not owned by the Seminary Library.
II. Who can use Interlibrary loan? Any currently enrolled Students, faculty, and staff who have library accounts in good standing and who are able to pick up their requests at the Seminary Library.
Patrons with overdue items may not use ILL. Guest users are to use their public library.
Failure to abide by any conditions of an ILL will result in the loss of ILL privileges.
III. What types of things can I borrow? This service may be used only to obtain items that are not owned by the library. Items in our holdings temporarily unavailable because they are missing or at the bindery are eligible.
IV. How much does an ILL cost? There are usually no charges to borrow books. If there are, you will be notified. Dissertaions usually cost you $25.00 - $45.00. Charges for Photocopying range from $0.00 to $0.15 per page.
Patrons are responsible for all charges and late fees for ILL. Patrons are also responsible for overdue fines and costs related to damage or loss of ILL materials.
V. How do I make an ILL request? How many can I make at one time? ILL requests should be submitted through FirstSearch. Ask Reference Staff for assistance if you need help. Patrons are limited to 3-4 submissions every other day.
VI. How long does it take for an item to come in? Times vary but two weeks is the average time.
VII. Can I renew an ILL item if I need it longer? Requests for renewal should be maded two days prior to the due date at the Reference Dept. You will be notified via e-mail if you item has been renewed.

Local Borrowing Aggreements
|
Most local universities and colleges will allow students in the community to acquire a guest library card for a small fee or for free. In the Raleigh/WakeForest area the Seminary has reciprocal borrowing agreements with Shaw Divinity School, Central Wesleyan College, and Meredith College. Agreements are also in place with our sister SBC seminaries. There are also agreement with local institutions near our Extension Center locations. Please ask your Extension Center Director for more information.

Renewals
|
|
Items can be renewed one time either online, in person, by phone or by e-mail provided the item is not requested by another patron.
An item returned after one renewal must remain in the Library for 24 hours before being checked out by the same patron.
Ph. D., Th.M. and Ed.D students and Faculty may have unlimited renewals if the book is not requested by another patron or needed for reserves.

Requests and Recalls
|
|
I. Requests A patron may "Make Request" on any item that has a checked-out status in the Library Catalog by clicking the “Request Item” button.
You will be notified by phone when the item is ready for pick up. The Front desk will hold the items for you for one week. Items not picked up will be sent back to the stacks or to the next patron on the list.
II. Recalls You may ask the Circulation Supervisor to RECALL any item that has been checked out for 3 weeks or more and is still out. You will be notified when the item is available for pick-up via phone or e-mail.

Reserve items are those materials required by your professor for your course. They are located at the Front Desk of the Library. Check out periods for items vary according to course needs. For late fees, please see the section on Fines.

Two-hour in reserve items may not leave the Library.
Two-hour out reserve items may leave the library for two hours or may be taken overnight if checked out two hours before the Library closes. If taken overnight, the item is due by 9am the next day.
One-day reserve items are due at 9:00 a.m. the next day that the Library is open, regardless of time checked out, and may not be checked out to the same person until 2:00 p.m. the same day.
One-week reserve books are due at 9:00 a.m. on the date stamped on the date due slip, with the following exceptions. Students in evening classes who are on campus only once a week may return them by closing time on the date due. D.Min., Th.M., Ph.D. students participating in an early morning seminar ending after 9:00 a.m. may return books when the seminar ends.
