How To Use This Guide

This guide is designed to help students begin their research into Church History and Historical Theology. It is not an exhaustive resource but should provide a great launching point for study in any of the major periods in the history of the Church. The category tabs will display some standard resources for the major periods of Church History and Historical Theology. If the SEBTS library owns the book, its call number will appear. A brief description of each book may be seen when you hold your cursor over the book's information icon.

 

What You Will Find under the Category Tabs

Church History/Historical Theology Surveys:  Single and Multi Volume surveys to introduce you to the field at large. This is a good place to begin your research.

Church History: Patristic Period:  Works focusing on the Patristic Period. 

Church History: Medieval Period:   Works focusing on the Medieval Period.

Church History: Reformation Period:   Works focusing on the Reformation Period.

Church History: Modern Period:   Works focusing on the Modern Period. This period is divided up into two sections, 17th and 18th Century and 19th and 20th Century.

Church History: Baptist History and Theology: Works focusing particularly on Baptist History and Theology. 

Journals:   A list of academic journals likely to contain articles describing or doing Church History or Historical Theology.
