Google Books
A search database that allows users to search and view books electronically. Though not all books are available to view in full, most allow the user to preview a limited number of pages.
Why is it helpful?
Google Books can be a useful tool in finding extra resources not available in the library's print collection. Though books may not be available in full text, often a limited preview provides the user with enough pages to know if it is a useful resource or not. If the whole book is desired yet not available, a request may be made through InterLibrary Loan.
How can I use it?
Google Books is used similarly to the regular Google search engine most are familiar with. Searches can be made using an author name or book title if there are specific works the user is looking for. However, a general search for a specific topic may be helpful in finding what other scholarship is available.
The "About this Book" feature provides a small summary of the book as well as other useful information, including a table of contents, bibliographic records, other published editions, other works by the same author, and subject terms that can be helpful in future searches.
If the book is within the public domain, it can be downloaded and saved to the user's personal Google Play library.
