Library Services

Distance Students

The Library offers several services to Distance Students that help them gain access to research materials for classes and projects. In order to accomplish this, we provide offsite access to our online databases. We also offer access to our print books and print journal articles.

Who Qualifies as a Distance Student?

If you are enrolled as a Distance Student at SEBTS in the College or Master's Program, then you qualify for Distance Student services. This means that if the Registrar's Office classifies you as a Distance Student, then these services are available to you. If you are not classified as a Distance Student, by the Registrar, than these services are not available to you.

For students enrolled in the Ph.D., Ed.D., D. Min., and Th. M. programs, the Registrar does not differentiate between on-campus students and Distance Students.  In order to qualify for Distance Student services, you must live 60 miles from SEBTS (we use Google Maps to verify). If you meet these qualifications, then you are able to use these services. See our Distance Policies for Distance Students for more information.

What Materials Are Available to Distance Students?

Any material that is not in PDF or eBook format and circulates is available to our Distance Student population. We are able to mail books to you (if you are in the continental U.S.). To find out how to request books, see our Items By Mail Guide.

We can also scan and email book sections, commentary sections, and journal articles. We reserve the right to deny a request that we deem in excess of the "fair use" clause as defined by the U.S. Copyright office.

Does the Library Charge For This Service?

No, the Library does not charge. However, if you borrow books you will have to cover the cost to ship them back to us. We recommend that you ship them back "Media Mail" to save on costs and insure the items (since media mail does not automatically add insurance). For more information, see our Items By Mail Guide.

Borrowing Privileges

Distance Student check-out privileges are defined on the Circulation page.
