Archives Reference Policies and Procedures: Step 2: Locate Archival Resources

Step 2: Locate Archival Resources

Many resources in the Archives at Southeastern can be discovered using some familiar library tools such as GO Search, Alcott, and WorldCat by utilizing some archives specific search parameters. Others require the use of finding aids. Some archives and library resources available through SEBTS can even be discovered and viewed online. The Discovering Archival Resources at Southeastern page will help guide you through the discovery process and provide some helpful tips for discovering:

  • Rare Books
  • Baptist Materials and Church Records
  • Personal Papers and Institutional Records
  • Primary Sources in Databases

Hard to Find Items

We are in the process of addressing items that contain inactive mold. If an item is listed in the catalog, but is not on the shelf, there is the possibility that the item has been separated for mold remediation.

If the resources provided here have not helped you find the requested item, contact Jonathan (ex. 2220) or Microsoft Teams app to help retrieve the item. If Jonathan is unavailable, take the researcher's contact information and let the researcher know you will get in contact as soon as the item is found.

Theses and Dissertations

Theses and Dissertations are in the process of being available exclusively online through Proquest. The following is a timeline of where a particular thesis or dissertation would be available depending on when it was published.

  • Before May 2016 - all Dissertations and Theses should have one hard copy available in the second or third floor stacks for checkout by patrons. Another hard copy is kept in the Archives for reference use only.
  • May 2016 - Ph.D Dissertations were moved online to Proquest with no hard copies available in the library or archives. All other Theses and Dissertations have hard copies available in the stacks and archives as outlined above.
  • December 2016 - All Theses and Dissertations moved to Proquest going forward.

Eventually, Theses and Dissertations will be also be available in Hyrax, our digital repository.
