Biographical Note: Richard H. Capps was born on June 22, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina. He received an Associate of Arts from North Greenville College in 1965. In 1967, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Furman University. He received a Master of Theology and a Doctor of Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1970 and 1978, respectively. In 1965, he became an ordained minister. He pastored several churches including: Fairfield Baptist Church in Winnsboro, South Carolina; Calvary Church in Columbia, South Carolina; First Baptist Church in Gaston; and Laurel Baptist Church in Greenville, North Carolina. In addition, he served as the Director of Missions for the South Roanoke Baptist Association and the Liberty Baptist Association.
Scope and Contents: This collection contains materials collected and used by Richard H. Capps from 1961-2003. It includes various research materials. The majority of these materials are booklets and pamphlets published by the Southern Baptist Convention and the Home Mission Board. This collection also contains materials regarding the churches and Baptist associations Capps served. These materials include church directories, church minutes, and associational meetings. In addition, the Capps Collection contains training materials for church leaders and members. Included are folders on lay evangelism and church development regarding outreach ministries.
