Date(s): 1999-2002
Extent: .5 cu.ft.
Biographical Note: Vance Havner (1901-1986) was a well-known preacher, revivalist, and author. He was born in North Carolina and was licensed to preach at the age of 12 and ordained at the age of 15. His novelty as a young preacher brought large audiences to hear him speak, but this ministry was halted by Havner’s pursuit of education. After attending a Baptist boarding school, Catawba College, and Wake Forest College, where he left before graduating, he returned to the pastoral ministry. He would serve in various churches until he became a full-time itinerant preacher in 1940.
