Abstract: This collection contains three boxes of material related to the research and translation work of John E. Steely.
Biographical Note: John Edward Steely (1922-1986) was a native of Almyra, Arkansas and attended Ouachita Baptist college, earning a B.A. in 1944. He later attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned B.D., Th. M., and Th.D. degrees. From 1948-1956, he served as the head of the department of Bible and Religious Education at Southern Baptist College (now Williams Baptist University) in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. In 1956, he left to join the faculty of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he would serve as professor of Historical Theology until his death in 1986. During his time as a professor, Dr. Steely translated numerous theological works into English.

Scope and Contents: This collection contains notes, research material, and manuscripts related to John E. Steely's translation work.
