Abstract: This collection contains 3 boxes of material related to Carol Sutton and her time as a messenger at the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Southern Baptists of Texas annual meetings. This material offers a first-hand account of events within the Southern Baptist Convention during the Conservative Resurgence.
Biographical Note: Carol Sutton was a native of Kingwood, Texas and served as a messenger to the Southern Baptist Convention from 1985-2006. She served on the committee on nominations in 1991. She was married to her husband, Eral, for 62 years and served in a variety of roles in her local church.
Scope and Contents: This collection contains correspondence and records of Carol Sutton’s time as a messenger at the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Southern Baptists of Texas annual meetings. Material in this collection give a personal account of the Conservative Resurgence from the perspective of a layperson. The material in this collection also gives insight into the development of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention and the events surrounding its formation.
