Biographical Note: Jesse Burton Weatherspoon (1886-1964) was born in Durham County, North Carolina. He received his ThD from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS) in 1911 and served as a pastor in North Carolina and Kentucky. From 1929-1959, he taught Christian ethics and sociology at SBTS, and from 1959-1964, he taught preaching at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as chairman of the Social Service Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention (later known as the Christian Life Commission), and in 1954, he addressed the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention concerning the Supreme Court ruling on the desegregation of public education. 

Scope and Contents: The material in this collection includes lecture notes, sermon notes, and sermon manuscripts, that span the majority of Weatherspoon's ministry.
