Abstract: This collection contains one box of material related to the life and ministry of Cary, NC businessman and church member, David Martin.
Biographical Note: David Martin (1928-2019) was a businessman from Cary, North Carolina who was closely involved in Southern Baptist denominational life. He was a long-time member and deacon of First Baptist Church Cary, North Carolina for which he served as a messenger to the Southern Baptist Convention. He developed a relationship with Paige Patterson, and through this relationship, he came to serve on the Board of Visitors at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was also concerned with the perceived theological drift within the Southern Baptist Convention during the Conservative Resurgence.
Scope and Contents: This collection contains material related to David Martin’s time on the Board of Visitors at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and his ministry as a member of First Baptist Church in Cary, North Carolina. The material in this collection gives insight into the function of the Board of Visitors at SEBTS and details Mr. Martin’s involvement in the Conservative Resurgence of the Southern Baptist Convention, both as a church member of First Baptist Church Cary, North Carolina, and his relationship and correspondence with Paige Patterson.
